Ankylosaurs

Ankylosaurs were low, wide plant-eaters covered in bony plates set in the skin, like a living suit of armor. Some, like Ankylosaurus and Euoplocephalus, even had bony plates over the eyelids.

There were two main families. Ankylosaurids had a heavy bone club at the end of the tail, while nodosaurids had no club but often carried long spikes on the shoulders. Borealopelta, a nodosaurid from Canada, is preserved so well that traces of its skin color survive.
