Every dinosaur, one journal

Dinosaur Vault is an encyclopedia of every known dinosaur: 1,318 genera so far, each with its own page. Every page gives when and where the animal lived, how big it was, what it was related to, what lived alongside it, and where its fossils have been found, on a map of today's Earth and on the Earth it knew.

It is written for anyone curious about dinosaurs. The facts are there for adults and students; the pictures, games and coloring pages are there for everyone else, and for the adults too.

Where the facts come from

Ages, places, rock formations and family trees come from the published fossil record, compiled by paleontologists from the scientific literature. Sizes are mainstream estimates; where the estimates disagree too much, we say nothing rather than guess. Ages and places on each page use the core of the finds, so a single stray or doubtful record does not stretch a dinosaur across half the world.

Ancient Earth maps are C. R. Scotese'sPALEOMAP PaleoAtlas (CC BY 4.0), which shows the continents and seas as they were, not today's coastlines moved around.

Pictures and video

Every picture is a life reconstruction made to match current science: feathered raptors, lips over theropod teeth, hands the way the bones allow. Science moves, and when it does, the pictures change with it.
